Oman Flour Mills Strengthens Its Fleet with Electric Vehicles and Achieves Operating Cost Savings of up to 70%

Oman Flour Mills has announced plans to expand the use of electric vehicles and equipment as part of its strategy to enhance environmental sustainability and improve operational efficiency, following the remarkable success of its initial experience in operating an electric truck and introducing an electric road sweeper into its services. Initial results from the operation of the electric sweeper showed a return on investment of up to 260% after replacing conventional methods, reflecting the viability of this transition and enabling work to be completed in a shorter period.

The company explained that its first electric truck, which was put into operation late last year, contributed to reducing operating expenses by up to 70% compared with conventional trucks, providing a strong incentive to move forward with this strategic direction.

Providing further details on these plans, Waleed Al Salmi, Transport and Logistics Operations Manager at Oman Flour Mills, said that based on the positive results achieved, the company has included in this year’s plan the addition of three new electric trucks to its fleet. It will also introduce five new electric forklifts equipped with air-conditioned cabins, increasing the proportion of electric forklifts to more than 60% of the company’s total forklift fleet.

Al Salmi added: “This transition towards an electric fleet not only delivers environmental and operational benefits, but also contributes directly to creating a positive and healthy work environment, which is reflected in greater operator comfort and higher productivity.”

Oman Flour Mills affirmed that these initiatives and ongoing efforts form part of its comprehensive vision to achieve net-zero emissions, reduce emissions and noise pollution, and adopt the latest technologies in support of the green economy while achieving the highest levels of operational efficiency.
