National Rehabilitation House officially inaugurated as a milestone in integrated healthcare

Muscat: The National Rehabilitation House (NRH), an initiative of the National University of Science and Technology (NU), officially marked its grand opening with a ceremonial inauguration held at its premises. The event was held under the auspices of His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al-Mandhari, Undersecretary for Planning and Health Regulations, who led the formal unveiling of the centre.

This milestone marks NRH’s transition from a soft launch phase to full operational capacity, reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of Oman’s evolving healthcare landscape. Built on the principles of integrated, patient-centred rehabilitation, NRH has already begun delivering essential services to individuals in need of therapeutic recovery.

The ceremony brought together senior representatives from the Ministry of Health, ambassadors, healthcare professionals, and dignitaries from both local and international sectors – reflecting the broad support and shared vision to elevate rehabilitation services in the Sultanate.

The establishment of NRH reflects the strategic foresight of the National University in responding to Oman’s growing need for integrated, high-quality rehabilitation services. Rooted in the country’s long-term healthcare goals outlined in Oman Vision 2040 and the Tenth Five-Year Plan, NRH aims to create a lasting impact through a holistic and inclusive model of care.

This pioneering facility embodies the National University’s commitment to healthcare advancement and community service. As noted by Dr. Ali Saud Al Bimani, Vice Chancellor of the National University, “This House embodies our collective vision, dedication, and unwavering commitment to advancing healthcare and improving the quality of life for our society. It is a beacon of hope for those in need of rehabilitation services, offering state-of-the-art facilities and comprehensive care that enable individuals to regain independence and reintegrate into society with dignity.”

Dr. Bimani also acknowledged the collaborative efforts that led to the creation of the centre. He extended his gratitude to key figures including His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al-Mandhari, Her Excellency Dr. Fatma Mohammed Al Ajmi, Executive President of the Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB), Brigadier Abdul Malik Al Kharusi, Assistant Chairman, Medical City for Military and Security Services (Supplies & Support), His Excellency Dr. Juma Al Kaabi, Bahrain’s Ambassador to Oman, His Excellency G. V. Srinivas, Indian Ambassador to Oman, Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Sarmi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, National University, and Ms. Fadwa Salim Said Al Fannah Al Araimi, Chairperson of the Supervisory Board, National Rehabilitation House. He further credited the instrumental support from

Dr. P. Mohamed Ali, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Dr. Hilal Al Sabti, Minister of Health, underscoring the House as a realised promise of collaborative service to the nation.

The commitment to comprehensive and compassionate care was powerfully echoed by the leadership of NRH during the inaugural ceremony. Ms. Fadwa Salim Said Al Fannah Al Araimi reflected on the deeper purpose of the centre, stating, “The National Rehabilitation House is a health centre and a space for healing and returning to life with a new spirit and renewed hope. It reflects our belief in comprehensive care that restores dignity and enhances the quality of life.”

Adding to this, Dr. Samiya Al Raisi, Director of the National Rehabilitation House, expressed, “This centre is a reflection of our commitment to restoring hope, movement, and dignity through focused and compassionate care. We extend our sincere gratitude to all whose leadership and dedication played a vital role in bringing this centre to life.”

The National Rehabilitation House is more than a healthcare facility; it is a centre for healing, education, and research that aims to shape the future of rehabilitative sciences in Oman. By combining clinical excellence with academic innovation, it stands as a model for how academic institutions can drive sustainable healthcare development and elevate rehabilitation standards locally and regionally.

The centre offers three core departments: Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech and Language Therapy, each focused on supporting individuals across all stages of recovery. These services are grounded in clinical expertise and a patient-centred approach that prioritises personal dignity and empowerment.

The Physiotherapy department focuses on restoring mobility, reducing pain, and rebuilding strength for individuals recovering from surgery, injury, or chronic conditions. Occupational Therapy helps patients of all ages regain essential life skills, supporting both developmental and rehabilitative needs. Speech and Language Therapy addresses communication and swallowing challenges with personalised care that often includes family involvement in the recovery process.

In addition to these core services, NRH offers specialised programmes in neurological rehabilitation, geriatrics, paediatrics, women’s health, sports and musculoskeletal rehabilitation, and more. These areas reflect the centre’s mission to provide comprehensive and tailored rehabilitation to every segment of the population.

Following the inauguration, Dr. Samiya Al Raisi, along with senior specialist therapists, conducted a guided tour of the facility. Guests had the opportunity to explore various departments and gain insight into the advanced rehabilitation services offered.

The National Rehabilitation House functions as both a centre for treatment and a hub for education, research, and professional development in rehabilitative sciences. By aligning with the National University’s academic framework and promoting continuous training, it delivers innovative, evidence-based care. With its full inauguration complete, NRH is poised to lead the future of rehabilitation in Oman through clinical excellence, academic integration, and strong community focus.
