Muscat, 18 December 2025, “Namat” Environmental Sustainability Competition concludes in public schools with the support of Veolia Oman and the Environment Society of Oman.
The Environment Society of Oman & Veolia in Oman which is part Veolia group, a global leader in waste, water and energy efficiency sectors has successfully concluded the fifth edition of the “Namat” Environmental Sustainability Competition for public schools across the Sultanate of Oman. The competition aims to enhance environmental awareness among students and encourage them to adopt eco-friendly practices that contribute to building a more sustainable future for Oman.

The initiative falls under the long-standing cooperation agreement between the Environment Society of Oman and Veolia in Oman, which focuses on empowering Omani youth in environmental fields and supporting the Society’s programs dedicated to environmental protection and the conservation of natural resources. Since its launch in 2019, the competition has engaged nearly 600 public schools across various governorates, making it one of the most prominent national initiatives in environmental education.
This year’s edition witnessed remarkable student participation, with innovative ideas and projects presented to reinforce sustainability concepts within schools and local communities. Activities and initiatives focused on the following areas: waste management, water management, energy management, integrating environmental concepts into school programs, community engagement, and innovation & entrepreneurship.

The winning schools were honored during a dedicated closing ceremony in recognition of their outstanding efforts: 1st Place, Sheikh Majid bin Khamis Basic Education School. 2nd Place, Al-Hasan bin Ali Basic Education School. 3rd Place, Azzan bin Qais Basic Education School In addition, special awards were presented as follows: Excellence in Environmental Innovation, Umamah bint Hamza bint Abdulmuttalib School. Excellence in Environmental Responsibility, Somarah School. Excellence in Sustainable Entrepreneurship Projects, Ma’wulah bin Shams Basic Education School
The ceremony also included honoring Mr. Ahmed Al-Badi from Azzan bin Qais School with the Environmental Sustainability Leadership Teacher Award, in appreciation of his exceptional contribution. Furthermore, Al-Dakhiliyah Governorate and North Al-Batinah Governorate received the Institutional Excellence Award for implementing “Namat” initiatives at the governorate level.
On this occasion, the Honourable Dr. Amor Al-Maatani, President of the Environment Society of Oman, stated, “Today, we celebrate the culmination of the ‘Namat’ Competition, a national platform we take pride in for encouraging the new generation to innovate, embrace environmental responsibility, and work towards a sustainable future. This initiative plays a vital role in raising awareness among students and empowering them to participate in impactful projects that contribute to a more conscious and sustainable Oman.”

He added: “We extend our sincere appreciation to Veolia in Oman for their continuous support and commitment to the success of the Society’s programs, reflecting a genuine dedication to the environment and the community. Strengthened collaboration between the Environment Society of Oman and partners across public and private sectors creates a wider impact in environmental awareness, empowering students and teachers to adopt sustainable practices within and beyond schools, in alignment with Oman Vision 2040 and global sustainability goals.”
