19 February 2013, Muscat: Known in its earlier years as the GMC Suburban, the GMC Yukon XL is a powerful large SUV that has made an indelible mark since its launch in 1936 as the leading choice for large families or anyone looking for ample passenger and cargo capacity. These are the characteristics that continue to attract customers loyal to the brand as well as draw those who desire practicality and comfort from their vehicle. Yet another attraction is its powerful towing capacity.

This all-rounded, powerful vehicle is now being offered by Moosa Abdul Rahman Hassan & Co LLC at an incredible price, starting from just RO18, 299. The full size SUV can comfortably accommodate eight passengers in three rows of seating and even after that, has ample space left for baggage. The second row has power fold and tumble seats that unlatch, fold and tumble out of the way with a simple, one-hand operation for easy access to the third row. Moreover, the ride is comfortable and smooth ensuring a great driving experience with the entire family and/ or friends. The glove box offers additional storage facility as does the centre console compartment that is the largest in the segment.

In addition, the Yukon XL offers distinctive styling, spacious and refined interiors, exceptional driving characteristics and segment-leading safety features including standard head curtain side air bags for all seating rows. The 360-degree perimeter safety system offers occupant protection and crash avoidance technologies. The vehicle’s sensing system provides segment-exclusive capability to deploy front seat safety belt pretensioners during certain rear-end collisions, enhancing the best system’s ability to hold the occupants firmly in place. Additional safety features include StabiliTrak stability control system with traction control and roll over mitigation technology – a software algorithm technology that uses sensors to proactively predict vehicle ‘tip-up’ and applies appropriate brake forces to help prevent such instances. Standard tyre pressure monitoring system, ultrasonic rear parking assist and voice-recognition navigation system are some other highlights among others.

It also packs a lengthy roster of standard and available technologies to make the driving experience more enjoyable. A power-assisted tailgate is designed to open or close itself via a switch inside the tailgate door, the overhead console or the key fob. A remote start enables the climate system to cool the vehicle’s interior prior to occupant use.  Second and third-row DVD entertainment system is available that includes a flip-down screen and system controls for second and third-row passengers. USB connectivity in the centre console enables stored audio files to play through the audio system and battery charging for handheld devices.

The comfortable seating comes in SLE (cloth trim) and SLT (leather appointments). Optional amenities include cooling of seats for first and second row passengers. The front seats offer plenty of fore/ aft and recline and the second row seats also have a comfortable angle for the seatback recline.

Available in 4WD configurations, the Yukon XL is built on GM’s full-size SUV platform that incorporates features such as a fully boxed frame, coil-over-shock front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering. The frame supports wide front and rear tracks that enhance stability and driving confidence through a more secure road feel and a lower centre of gravity. The vehicle’s exterior dimension are similar to the regular models but is about 14-inch longer in wheelbase and 20 inches more in overall length than regular Yukon models.

For improved fuel economy, the Yukon XL models feature a 5.3L V-8 with GM’s fuel saving Active Fuel Management technology. The 5.3L and 6.2L engines are capable of running on E85; in fact, all Yukon XL half tonne models come standard with the E85-capable version of the 5.3L V-8. GM vehicles with E85 capability can run on 100 per cent gasoline, E85 or any combination of the two.
