Muscat Finance sponsors Sumail Football tournament

May 1, 2016

Recognising the power of sport as a vehicle for youth development, Muscat Finance – the Sultanate’s first non-banking financial company (NBFC) – recently sponsored the first Sumail Football Tournament as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments.

Participating in the tournament were a number of teams from the across the Dakhiliyah, Muscat and South Al Batinah governorates of Oman. The high turnout underscored the popularity of football among young Omanis and the passion with which the game is played across the Sultanate. In the end, Al Shabiba team scooped the championship trophy in an exciting final that saw them pull off a 2-1 win over Al Hail team.

The Guest of Honour was His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said who later presented the trophy to the winning team, as well as medals and certificates to the runners-up and participating teams.

Representing Muscat Finance was its Chairman of the Board, Mr. Faisal bin Mohammed Al Yousef, accompanied by Mr Juma Abdullah Al Khamisi, Board member. Also present were several local dignitaries, notably His Excellency Engineer Younis Bin Ya’aqoob bin Issa Al Siyabi, Shura Council Member representing Sumail wilayat, who is also President of Sumail Club.

For Muscat Finance, the sponsorship of the football tournament represented its maiden foray as a corporate sponsor into sports. It also marked an interesting addition to the company’s expanding and diversifying CSR programme, which has until now been focused on funding support for recognised Omani charities and welfare groups.

Given football’s robust popularity among young Omanis, the sponsorship of the first Sumail Football Tournament was an opportunity for Muscat Finance to connect with a promising target segment of the company’s customer-base, said Mr. Bikram S. Rishi, Chief Executive Officer, Muscat Finance.

“We view football as a powerful vehicle for youth development and the promotion of a healthy and balanced lifestyle.  By using sports as a platform, it is also possible to encourage young people into enterprise and opportunities that help improve their lives and contribute to society – objectives that are also central to Muscat Finance’s vision and mission,” he added.
