What are your core areas of focus?
JST focus is now diversified into Technology and Telecom convergence.
We were focusing on Networking, Telecommunications and Security infrastructure solutions so far. This does not satisfy us to serve Oman in its correct perspective.
We are the best in providing end-to-end telecommunication, IT/infrastructure solutions, structured cabling solutions, security solutions including E-security solutions, apart from office automation equipment to major customers in Oman, including ministries. These are currently the focus areas for our business in Oman. However, we are expanding our team exponentially to offer wide range of solutions in Information, Communications and Technology aimed at corporate and public sector organisations in Oman. Our focus is also in extending excellent customer service.
Has the government vertical emerged as one of the biggest growth drivers for the IT industry in Oman?
Information, communication and entertainment can be powerful growth drivers of the economy and the convergence of these industries. At one time the IT industry was globally competitive. Today it is difficult to find industries which are not globally competitive.
The growth of the IT industry in Oman is having far-reaching social and economic implications. To achieve national success in this new environment there will need to be an appreciation and understanding of the factors that drive innovation and growth in the information technology and are likely to underpin its future development.
There can be little doubt that information and communications technology (ICT) is the fundamental technology driving innovation in our society. We need to understand the ICT’s impact of on productivity.
We need to provide the policy platform to address new challenges to Oman’s position as a leading information economy.
Two of the four priorities of the strategic framework are specific to the ICT–productivity debate:
- Develop Oman's innovation system as a platform for productivity growth and industry transformation; and
- Raise Oman public sector productivity, collaboration and accessibility through the effective use of information, knowledge and ICT.
According to a report by the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation, IT adds $2 trillion dollars annually to the US economy, and "is responsible for nearly all of the pickup in economic growth over the last decade." The ITIF's report, entitled Digital Prosperity: Understanding the Economic Benefits of the Information Technology Revolution, marks the integration of IT tools into widespread aspects of the economy.
Produced by the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation (ITIF), the report integration of IT into widespread sectors of the economy.
The economic effects of IT are a combination of the productivity growth of IT companies with the productivity attributable to IT in other sectors from agriculture to manufacturing, demonstrating that technological progress is in a large part responsible for reversing a 20-year slowdown in productivity from the mid-1970s to the mid-1990s, as well as two-thirds of total productivity growth in the U.S. between 1995 and 2002.
We need to recognize this phenomenon and adjust our thinking to make IT a centrepiece of our economic policy -- from planning and forecasting to tax policies that intent future growth," said ITIF president Robert Atkinson. "Policies to support digital transformation need to become the fourth leg of economic policy alongside fiscal, monetary and investment policy."
What are the main reasons for enhanced spending on IT automation by the government?
In fact the growth in integrated voice, video, data, Voice over IP, Voice over Internet, e-learning, mobile solutions and e-Commerce have hurried the changes in GCC and Oman is no exception.
Starting from a strong Network Infrastructure, IP Telephony within enterprises and mobility solutions need organizations with a clear vision to understand the return-on-investments by investing on IT spending.
Enhanced IT budgets will not only help the organizations be in sync with the growth happening in GCC, as well as globally, but also can see benefits in delivering better solutions, timely and accurate services to their clients.
