This issue of Vistas is a tribute to the resilience shown by the Omani entrepreneur who has weathered the storm of global economic recession.  We are delighted to break the news that trade and industrial sectors in Oman have registered growth in the first half of current year.

Thanks to the benevolent leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the wise policies implemented by the government and true spirit of entrepreneurship shown by Omani businessmen, trade and industrial sectors of Sultanate have not witnessed closure or job cuts in the first half of 2009 unlike many other countries.

Our reports and detailed interviews corroborate it. The exclusive interviews which we conducted with the top-notch businessmen and professionals in Oman are revealing. It gives invaluable information on the trends in different sectors, the challenges faced by them and their growth prospects. We are sure that discerning readers and enterprising businessmen in the Sultanate and potential investors from within the country and abroad cannot afford to miss it.

We have reports and interviews on four very important sectors of the economy namely, Telecom, Health Care, Retailing and Public Relations. In addition we have a special section on Women Achievers. It is a pointer to the social progress made by the Sultanate. We know that one volume is not enough to cover the achievements of women in Oman. It was really a challenge to limit the interviewees to a few. Our apologies to those who have not been featured here. We promise to feature more women achievers in our coming issues.

This issue also contains an interview with writer, artist and curator Sarah White, and also a review of a maiden novel authored by Asha Iyer Kumar titled Sand Storms, Summer Rains.

We have great respect for our readers who consist of highly successful people like the ones whom we have featured here. Meeting leaders and getting their response was a pleasant and intellectually enriching experience. In the end we have a magazine admired by readers for its   first-hand authentic information on business and industry. We have geared up our countrywide distribution network to ensure that the magazine reaches our readers who are eagerly waiting for it.

ach of our interviews contain important news for readers like some of the telecom giants in Oman planning to provide lower rates for frequent international callers, a leading player in the health sector preparing  to open a world class facility in Muscat and new projects of retailing giants in Oman. The strategies implemented by top business groups in Oman to overcome the effects of recession will provide interesting reading to even industry analysts from abroad.

We are grateful to our supporters and well wishers, whose encouragement inspired us and helped to ensure the success of Vistas. We request our readers to write to their response to us on this issue and what they expect from us in the coming issues. Write to us at editor@omanvistas.com
